Food Assistance Schedule Will Change in September and October
Virginians who depend on SNAP benefits (formerly known as food stamps) to buy food will have a change coming in the fall. The change will cause a temporary delay in benefits for some recipients and will require a community response to keep families fed.
Food Stamps Basics
The food stamp program is a government program that can help people buy food. It is intended to alleviate hunger and malnutrition. As of October 2008, it became officially known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). However, it is still commonly referred to as food stamps. This article provides a comprehensive overview of SNAP and includes a FAQ on college students' eligibility for food stamps.
